The Mauritian Diaspora – We’ll never forget our roots in Mauritius!

" The Mauritians living in the United States feel privileged to have received an excellent education from the catholic schools in Mauritius.  Due to the education received, they were able to acquire good jobs and live a comfortable life.  They felt it was time to give back and help the Mauritian students in any way they can. Trait d' Union USA Mauritius was formally registered in 2002 after a pastoral visit from Bishop

Maurice E. Piat.

Every year, Trait d' Union USA Mauritius organizes a fund-raising activity to help the RCA schools in Mauritius. Over the years, it has been able to participate in the renovation of some schools. For the last three years, for example, we have contributed to the well-being of pupils of Philippe Rivalland RCA in Beau-Bassin, Notre Dame du Refuge RCA in New Grove and Souillac RCA.

This 15th June 2019, for our fundraiser, it was a pleasure for us to welcome Father Alain Romaine, Episcopal Delegate and Dr (Mrs) Gilberte Chung Kim Chung, Executive Director of Service Diocésain de l’Education Catholique (SeDEC) who were able to come to Washington on their way back from the International Catholic Education Conference in New York. They both expressed their gratitude on behalf of all the children in the RCA schools and thanked Trait d’Union for the networking done with all the Mauritian families in the USA and friends who each year donate generously for the current projects.

Our new project this year 2019 is to help in the renovation projects of Plaine St Cloud RCA which is a small rural school in the east of the island. The works are quite extensive and comprise the renovation of all classrooms, the construction of a new toilet block, a multipurpose room, a library, a canteen as well as the installation of a new electricity network.

We rely on one and all to help us in this laudable initiative.”
